Terms of Service
1. About These Terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Guardiobot platform and services (the "Service"). By accessing or using the Service, or by inviting the bot to your Discord server or Roblox experience, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you must stop using the Service immediately.
Guardiobot is operated as an individual project based in England. All references to "we," "us," or "our" refer to the individual operator of the Service. This does not constitute a registered company or legal business entity.
If you are acting as a consumer, you have additional rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and other UK consumer protection legislation that cannot be excluded by these Terms.
2. Description of Service
Guardiobot is an automated moderation and community safety service for Discord and Roblox. The Service includes:
- Automated content detection using keyword, regex, content fingerprint, and URL matching — operating entirely on local infrastructure with no per-message external AI dependency
- Spam detection using an in-memory sliding window — no database dependency for real-time decisions
- Adaptive learning that builds a per-community behavioural profile to reduce false positives
- Anti-raid protection including VPN and proxy detection, alt-account detection, and join rate limiting
- Cross-server ban enforcement — punishments propagate automatically across all servers participating in the Guardiobot network
- Human volunteer review for escalated detections, via a credentialled volunteer dashboard
- Anonymous reporting for community members
- User risk classification (Class A through D) based on offence history across the network
- Server owner dashboard for configuration, audit logs, and subscription management
- An optional AI chatbot feature available to Community Manager tier subscribers using their own Anthropic API key — Guardiobot holds no shared API key for this feature
- Appeal handling for moderation decisions
The Service is provided on an "as available" basis. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, with reasonable notice where practicable.
3. Eligibility
3.1 Age Requirements
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service, in line with Discord's and Roblox's minimum age requirements. If you are under 18, you must have the consent of a parent or legal guardian.
3.2 Platform Requirements
Use of the Service requires a valid Discord or Roblox account in good standing with the respective platform's terms of service. You are responsible for the security of your own platform accounts.
3.3 Server Authority
To add Guardiobot to a Discord server or Roblox experience, you must hold the necessary administrative permissions on that server or experience and have authority to agree to these Terms on behalf of it and its members.
3.4 Prohibited Users
The Service is not available to users who have been suspended or removed from the Service for prior violations of these Terms.
4. Acceptable Use
4.1 Permitted Use
You may use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. The Service is intended to help protect online communities and must not be used for any other purpose.
4.2 Prohibited Conduct
You must not:
- Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the Service
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service, its infrastructure, or any connected systems
- Interfere with or disrupt the operation of the Service or its underlying systems
- Deploy automated scripts or tools to interact with the Service in ways not expressly authorised
- Circumvent or attempt to disable any security feature, access control, or rate limit
- Use the Service to harass, threaten, stalk, or harm any person
- Use the Service for any commercial purpose not expressly authorised by us
- Impersonate any person or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or organisation
- Provide false information to influence a volunteer review or appeal outcome
- Collect or harvest personal data from other users without their consent
- Transmit malware, viruses, or other malicious code through the Service
- Use the Service in any way that violates applicable law or regulation
4.3 Content Responsibility
You are solely responsible for all content, messages, and data processed through your use of the Service. We do not monitor, endorse, or take responsibility for content within your servers or experiences. You bear full responsibility for managing your community in accordance with applicable law.
4.4 Platform Compliance
You must comply with Discord's Terms of Service, Community Guidelines, and Developer Terms, as well as Roblox's Terms of Use and Community Standards. Violations of platform rules may result in your access to the Service being terminated immediately.
5. Privacy and Data
5.1 Data We Collect
To provide the Service, we collect and process data including:
- Server and experience identifiers, configuration settings, and preferences
- Discord user IDs and Roblox usernames, for moderation and enforcement purposes
- Message content and metadata, processed locally for content detection — not stored in plaintext beyond the retention windows below
- Moderation logs, action history, enforcement records, and audit trails
- Anonymised report data — reporter identity is cryptographically hashed (SHA-256) and never stored in plaintext
- Volunteer credentials and session data, for the volunteer dashboard
- Subscription and payment metadata, processed by Stripe
5.2 How We Use Data
We process data to provide, maintain, and improve the Service, enforce these Terms and our Community Guidelines, and comply with legal obligations. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. Our lawful bases for processing under UK GDPR are legitimate interests (service provision and community safety), legal obligation (legal reporting requirements), and contract performance.
5.3 Retention and Deletion
Key retention periods:
- Message samples used for adaptive learning: deleted after 30 days
- Authentication logs and audit logs: deleted after 90 days
- Enforcement and moderation records: retained for the duration of service use, and thereafter only where required by law or for legitimate enforcement (e.g. a hashed user identifier may be retained to enforce an active cross-server ban)
5.4 UK GDPR Rights
If you are based in the UK or EEA, you have rights under the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018, including the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or port your personal data, and the right to object to processing. To exercise any of these rights, contact legal@guardiobot.org. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
5.5 Third-Party Services
The Service integrates with Discord, Roblox, Stripe, external safety APIs (including Rotector and TASE for Roblox user risk scoring), VPN detection providers, and Google Safe Browsing. These services have their own privacy policies and we are not responsible for their data practices. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
6. Intellectual Property
6.1 Ownership
Guardiobot, including all software, source code, designs, logos, and documentation, is owned by the operator and protected by UK and international intellectual property law including the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988.
6.2 Licence Grant
Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and use the Service for its intended purpose. This licence does not permit you to copy, reproduce, modify, redistribute, sell, sublicence, or build competing services based on the Service.
6.3 Feedback
If you provide feedback or suggestions about the Service, you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free licence to use that feedback in any way we see fit, without compensation or obligation.
6.4 Copyright Infringement
If you believe content processed through the Service infringes your copyright, please contact us at legal@guardiobot.org with full details of the alleged infringement. See our Copyright & DMCA Policy for full details.
7. Service Availability
7.1 No Guarantee of Uptime
We do not guarantee that the Service will be available at all times or without interruption. The Service may be unavailable due to maintenance, updates, technical failures, or outages of Discord, Roblox, or other third-party services on which the Service depends.
7.2 Right to Modify or Discontinue
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or permanently discontinue the Service or any feature. Where reasonably practicable we will provide advance notice of significant changes.
7.3 Beta Features
We may offer beta or experimental features on an "as is" basis. These may be incomplete, may contain bugs, and may be modified or withdrawn without notice.
8. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent permitted by English law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including any implied warranties of satisfactory quality, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the Service will meet your requirements, be error-free or uninterrupted, or detect or prevent all harmful content or policy violations. No automated moderation system is perfect — both false positives and false negatives can occur.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded under English law.
9. Limitation of Liability
9.1 Excluded Losses
To the fullest extent permitted by English law, we will not be liable for any loss of profits, revenue, business, data, goodwill or reputation, or for any indirect or consequential losses, including losses arising from false positives or negatives in automated detection, actions taken by Discord or Roblox against your account, or actions of other users in your community.
9.2 Liability Cap
Our total aggregate liability to you for all claims arising from or related to these Terms or the Service shall not exceed the greater of: (a) the total amount you have paid to us in the twelve months preceding the claim; or (b) £100.
9.3 Consumer Rights
If you are a consumer, nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 or any other applicable UK consumer protection legislation.
9.4 Force Majeure
We will not be liable for any failure or delay caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including natural disasters, acts of government, telecommunications or power failures, or failures of Discord, Roblox, Stripe, or other third-party services.
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the operator of Guardiobot from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal costs) arising out of or connected with: your use of the Service in breach of these Terms; your violation of any applicable law or third-party right; any content or data you process through the Service; or any dispute between you and a member of your community.
This indemnification obligation does not apply to the extent that a claim arises from our own negligence, fraud, or breach of these Terms.
11. Termination
11.1 Termination by You
You may stop using the Service at any time by removing Guardiobot from your Discord server or Roblox experience. Termination does not affect any accrued rights or obligations.
11.2 Termination by Us
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms or violated applicable law, or if we are required to do so by a competent authority. Where possible we will give reasonable notice and an opportunity to remedy any breach before termination.
11.3 Effect of Termination
On termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Sections 4.3, 6, 8, 9, 10, 14, and 16 survive termination.
12. Automated Decisions and Moderation
The Service uses automated systems to detect and respond to content that may violate platform rules or community standards. You acknowledge that:
- Detection runs on a severity scale of 1–10. High-severity detections (8–10) trigger immediate automatic action — no human review is required before enforcement
- Medium-severity detections (5–7) result in an automatic warning to the user and escalation to the volunteer review queue for a final decision
- Low-severity detections (1–4) are logged for pattern analysis and feed the adaptive learning system — no direct action is taken
- Cross-server bans propagate automatically to all servers participating in the Guardiobot network. Network participation is opt-in per server and managed exclusively by Guardiobot staff
- All enforcement actions are recorded in an immutable audit log including action type, target, reviewer identity, timestamp, and reason
- Users subject to enforcement actions may appeal through the Guardiobot dashboard. All bans are appealable by default unless a senior volunteer has restricted appeal rights on a specific case
- Automated detection may produce false positives or false negatives — no system is infallible
Where automated decisions have a significant legal or similarly significant effect on a user, rights under UK GDPR Article 22 may apply. Users may request human review by submitting an appeal through the dashboard or contacting legal@guardiobot.org.
13. Subscriptions and Payments
13.1 Subscription Tiers
Guardiobot offers the following tiers:
- Free: Access to all core moderation features, content detection, anti-raid, verification, reporting, and audit logs at no cost
- Community Manager ($4.99/month): Includes all Free features plus the ability to use an AI moderation chatbot powered by your own AI provider API key, and the ability to remove Guardiobot-issued punishments from your server
- Developer ($6.99/month): Includes all Community Manager features plus API access (60 requests per minute)
- Supporter (one-time): A voluntary one-time donation that grants a recognition role — no additional features
13.2 Billing

13.3 Cancellation
You may cancel your subscription at any time through the Stripe customer portal. On cancellation, you retain access until the end of your current billing period. Cancellation does not entitle you to a refund of any amounts already paid. See our Refund Policy for full details.
13.4 AI Chatbot
The AI chatbot feature available to Community Manager and Developer subscribers requires you to provide your own API key from a supported AI provider. Guardiobot does not hold a shared API key for this feature. Your key is stored encrypted and is never logged or transmitted outside your server's configuration. You are solely responsible for all usage and costs associated with your API key.
14. Dispute Resolution
14.1 Informal Resolution
Before bringing any formal legal proceedings, please contact us at legal@guardiobot.org and give us a reasonable opportunity to resolve the matter informally. We will aim to respond within 30 days.
14.2 Governing Law
These Terms and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them (including non-contractual disputes) are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.
14.3 Jurisdiction
The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any dispute or claim arising from these Terms. If you are a consumer resident in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence.
14.4 Alternative Dispute Resolution
If you are a consumer and we cannot resolve a dispute, you may seek independent legal advice or refer the matter to an alternative dispute resolution provider. We are not currently a member of a certified ADR scheme.
15. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where reasonably practicable, notify you through the Service or by email.
If you are a consumer, material changes will not apply to you retrospectively unless required by law. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
16. General
16.1 Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and any other policies published on our website, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service.
16.2 Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, it will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, or if not possible, severed. The remaining provisions continue in full force.
16.3 No Waiver
Our failure to enforce any provision of these Terms does not constitute a waiver of our right to enforce it in future. Any waiver must be given in writing.
16.4 Assignment
You may not assign or transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign or transfer our rights and obligations without restriction.
16.5 Third-Party Rights
These Terms do not create any rights enforceable by any third party under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999.
16.6 Electronic Communications
You agree to receive communications from us electronically via email, Discord, or notices posted on our website. These satisfy any legal requirement for written notice.
